All students must complete a course designated as fulfilling the Language, Culture, and Communication Requirement. Entering students who have passed, with at least a C average, four years of the same high school foreign/modern language are waived from MCLA's Language, Culture, and Communication Requirement. 

Entering students who have not met the 4th year high school level of the same foreign/modern language requirement can take a Modern Language Placement Test to determine, with their advisors, the most appropriate course placement. 

Students that are native speakers of a language other than English but have passed four years of high school English language, or an English as a second language program, are waived from this requirement.
