The minor in Environmental Health is an interdisciplinary program designed for students majoring in the life, physical science, environmental, and health sciences, who may wish to pursue a career in environmental public health, private sector environmental health, and occupational health and safety.  Students will focus on the relationship between humans and the environment, and understand the influences and impact of environmental factors and policy on human health.

Students graduating with a minor in Environmental Health will be able to:

• Analyze the interconnections between environmental systems including air, water, soil, and built environments and human health outcomes by examining exposure pathways, dose-response relationships, and population-level health effects;
• Synthesize knowledge of environmental policy, law, and justice frameworks to examine how regulatory structures address or fail to address environmental health disparities and develop recommendations that advance health equity;
• Evaluate environmental health hazards using epidemiological methods and risk assessment frameworks to determine the magnitude of health threats in communities;
• Assess the effectiveness of prevention and mitigation strategies;
• Apply appropriate research methods and technical tools including laboratory techniques, GIS mapping, environmental sampling protocols, or statistical analysis to investigate environmental health problems and generate evidence-based findings;
• Interpret quantitative and qualitative data from environmental monitoring, epidemiological studies, and community assessments to draw valid conclusions about environmental health relationships and identify patterns of exposure and disease.
