Public Health Minor (PUBH)
The Public Health minor prepares students for careers in public health fields. It provides students an understanding of the concepts, language, and methods of addressing population-level health challenges.
Students graduating with a minor in Public Health will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the social, environmental, and biological determinants of health and their impact on population health outcomes;
- Apply basic epidemiological concepts to describe the distribution and determinants of health conditions in populations;
- Interpret statistical data and research findings relevant to public health issues;
- Utilize quantitative methods to analyze public health data and trends;
- Communicate public health concepts and data effectively through written and oral formats to varied audiences;
- Recognize and respect diverse community perspectives and health-related needs;
- Describe strategies for engaging communities in health promotion and disease prevention efforts;
- Identify culturally appropriate approaches to public health education and intervention;
- Identify ethical considerations in public health practice, including issues of equity, justice, and population-level interventions;
- Apply evidence-based reasoning to evaluate public health programs, policies, and interventions;
- Analyze the relationships between research evidence, public health practice, and health policy;
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills when examining public health challenges and proposing solutions.
